Professor Miriam Tanti recently presented at the Hartford College Key Parent Function on the timely topic Future Ready Kids: How to Raise Confident Thinkers in an AI World. The evening explored the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and what it means for education, parenting and the formation of young people in the years ahead.

Drawing on her research in education and AI, Professor Tanti challenged parents and educators to think carefully about how technology is shaping not only the way students learn, but also the way they think, remember, and engage with the world. She highlighted the difference between using AI as a tool to support learning and allowing it to replace the important intellectual struggle that leads to genuine understanding.

A key theme of the presentation was the importance of cultivating deep attention, critical thinking, and wisdom in an age of instant answers. While AI offers extraordinary opportunities, Professor Tanti emphasised that young people still need to develop strong habits of concentration, reflection, creativity and independent thought.

The presentation also explored practical ways families and schools can guide students toward healthy and responsible uses of AI. Rather than responding with fear or rejection, Professor Tanti encouraged a balanced and values-led approach — one that recognises the benefits of technology while protecting the deeply human aspects of education and formation.

The evening strongly resonated with Hartford College’s commitment to forming thoughtful, articulate and virtuous young men who are prepared not only for the future of work, but for lives of wisdom, leadership and human flourishing.
